About Sano machiba
Surrounding areas of Izumisano Furusato Machiya-kan Museum (Former Niigawa Family House) are generally referred as "Sano machiba". In Edo period in this area wealthy merchant "Meshino" family ran a big shipping company and achieved great success. Farmers, fishermen, merchants and so on lived here together, and unique townpeople’s culture blossomed.
The streets where old warehouses and “Machiya” houses remain were formed naturally. The shapes of building are irregular, the roads are narrow and complex like mazes. You can see the skyscrapers from narrow old alleys.
Modern landscapes around Kansai International Airport and the old streets cross. This is the "Sano machiba" characteristic.
